Dear Yuletide Writer

Hello! Thank you for writing for me and for sharing one of these fandoms!
I'm DeCarabas on AO3 and carabas on tumblr. All my prompts are completely optional; I would love any story with these characters, so anything I write here is just to give you a starting point if you need it. Please don't feel you need to cram everything I mention into your fic - I'm just tossing out lots of things I like and hoping you'll find something you like too. So if you already have an idea but it doesn't match any of my prompts, fantastic, go with that idea. What I want most is just to see someone else's take on these characters. I love these fandoms and can't wait to see what you do.
I'm easy to please. I like gen and shippy fic equally. I like fluffy and lighthearted fics, bittersweet fic, dark and twisted fics, and everything in between. I like everything from G-rated gen to explicit PWP, plotty dramas or worldbuilding or introspective character studies, longfic or shortfic - and I'd like any of the above for any of these fandoms. Whatever style of fic you like to write, I like to read it.
Some things I particularly like: Slice of life. Established relationships. Road trips. Crossovers with history or mythology or fairy tales. Folklore references, religious references. Monsters and demons. Magic and magical mishaps. Telepathic connection. Dream sequences. Altered states. Immortality. Reincarnation. Identity porn. Loyalty. Competency. Obsession. Threesomes, particularly someone falling in love with an established couple, or an established couple seducing someone new. Woke up married. Sharing a bed. Huddling for warmth.
Some kinks I particularly like: Voyeurism and exhibitionism. Mirrors. Blindfolding as an expression of trust. Body worship. Nonpenetrative sex. Knife play. Blood kink. Xeno. Voice kink. Praise kink. Creative uses of magic.
Some things I'd rather not get: Non-con. (But dub-con is fine.)
If you're completely stuck on whatever fandom we matched on and want to try picking up another, Painted Skin is a series of two fantasy movies; Neumeier's Little Mermaid is a ballet that's available on video; and although I absolutely recommend Sleep No More to everyone, unfortunately the only way to see it is to physically be in New York.
The Little Mermaid - Neumeier
Characters: The Poet | Hans Christian Andersen, The Little Mermaid | His Creation
I loved the character of the Poet and the sort of meta interaction he has with his creation - both the mermaid herself and the world she inhabits. I would love to see that relationship in more depth, maybe adding a deleted scene or expanding on a scene from the show.
My favorite part of this show was watching the Poet with his creation, the way he guides her through the story almost against his will, considering all the pain that he puts her through. I love the way he often seems powerless to change the course of the story even though he's the one creating it, and I love the way the mermaid often ignores his attempts to hold her back. I love the way he moves through the story, sometimes interacting with it directly, sometimes just an observer, and I love the joy he took in her beautiful undersea world, like a sanctuary from his problems in the real world - only for his problems in the real world to immediately play out all over again inside his story. I love the way the mermaid is simultaneously his mirror image while also being her own separate person.
I ship it as a kind of selfcest, and I'd be just as happy with a gen version of their relationship, and I'd also be happy to see either/both of them shipped with the Prince or Edvard, provided it doesn't change the ending of the ballet.
Alternatively, I wouldn't mind seeing a focus less on the Poet's relationship with the mermaid specifically and more on how he relates to the world of the story as a whole - the way he uses it as an escape, and the way he seems to have only limited control over it. Or maybe something like a more historical RPF angle, where the events of the ballet are explicitly something going on in his imagination, and how he views the real world with all this going on in his head.
Painted Skin (Movies)
Characters: Peirong, Princess Jing, Xiaowei
I'd love to see a story playing with Jing's resemblance to Peirong, and I'd be equally happy with femslash or gen. Maybe something like a reincarnation AU, or simply Xiaowei being reminded of Peirong when she sees Jing. Alternatively, I'd love a story set in one of the moments when two of them have traded roles in some fashion - when Peirong is seen as a demon or when Jing and Xiaowei have swapped skins.
You don't have to use all three of my requested characters for this fandom. Feel free to pick any two of them, if that works better for your story. I ship everyone with everyone here. Jing/Xiaowei, Peirong/Xiaowei, I don't know how you could make Peirong/Jing work but if you can then I would be thrilled, I like all the canon ships too, and I'd be equally thrilled with gen.
What I love most is the way these stories play with identity, the way the characters get stuck in each other's roles - the most striking image in the movies for me is when Peirong is run out of her home as a 'demon' while Xiaowei watches. So I would love any story that plays with trading roles. How does Jing feel when she's watching 'herself'? Maybe an AU where Xiowei and Jing stay in each other's skins for a little longer?
And the resemblance of the characters in the sequel to the characters in the first movie! I'd love to see some moment where Jing reminds Xiaowei of Peirong. Or a reincarnation AU where Jing finds Xiaowei familiar - or maybe they meet for a third time, or maybe the first movie wasn't the first time they met? Or Jing as Peirong's descendant, or anything else playing with their resemblance. Or anything else that strikes your interest - I'd love to see any fic about these movies.
Sleep No More - Punchdrunk
Characters: Fulton and Bargarran
I'd like to hear your version of Fulton and Bargarran's backstory. Or Fulton/Bargarran. Or Fulton OR Bargarran, it doesn't have to be both - I just want to hear more about these characters. Whether that's plotty pre-canon fic, introspective character study, PWP, or something as surreal as the show - I'd love any of the above or anything else you can think of. Just show me how you see them.
I've requested and received great fic for this and it just makes me want more. The dynamic between these two can change a lot depending on which actors are playing them - and that's part of the appeal to me, that there's so many different directions these characters can be taken in. So if the way you see Fulton and Bargarran is drastically different from the way I see them, I am completely up for that. I love seeing infinite variations on characters and their stories (one more thing I love about the Macbeth aspect of Sleep No More) and I am way more interested in hearing about your headcanon than mine. I'd also love seeing a story including any of the other characters involved in Fulton and Bargarran's lives - Hecate and the witches, the speakeasy bartender, Agnes and her sister, or any of the other residents of the McKittrick.
But if you're looking for a more specific starting point - and please ignore any of this that doesn't work for your interpretation of the characters - this request is mostly inspired by my last trip to the McKittrick, when I followed Fulton most of the time. (I've only been twice, but I've spoiled myself as much as I can by reading other people's trip reports.) I've got a trip report on tumblr, but some of the parts that stuck with me the most:
The way Fulton watched the rave, I can't describe his expression. It wasn't just horror - more like pain. And when he turned and ran from it, he kept one hand pressed to the side of his neck in a way that made me think of phantom pain from an old wound, or a witch's mark. He's trying to protect everyone from Hecate's influence, but I'd love a story where maybe he hasn't been entirely untouched by her influence himself in the past.
And when Bargarran was alone in the tailor's shop, he handled Fulton's things with such care - I mean he was running his fingers over Fulton's Bible in this slow and lingering way, right up until he started shredding pages. Even then, very slow and deliberate. And you get a lot of music about nostalgia in this show - "Every night about this time, memory haunts me;" "Maybe you'll ask me to come back again, and maybe I'll say maybe," and so on. I wound up watching Bargarran sit in his shop with his head lowered during a song like that, after seeing him tear up Fulton's Bible and fight with him in the street, and I couldn't help thinking that song was about the two of them, their past. I've been craving to hear about that past ever since.
More in general, there's a lot about Fulton I'm curious about. Particularly how he can go on with his daily life on that street while carrying out this sort of doomed one-man struggle against the witches, hopelessly outgunned. (...Well, by 'daily life' I mean his eternal loop, I suppose - but is that how it seems to him? Or to Bargarran, for that matter? Or maybe a story where only one of them is aware they've done all this before.) And I'm curious about Fulton's connection to the funeral home, and why he seems to be playing undertaker as well as tailor. It seems like more of a safe place for him than his own shop; the funeral home's the place that he barricades, and where he hides and watches the street, and I like that a place for tending to the dead is the closest he comes to a sanctuary - as opposed to a chapel, for example. I'm also curious about his role as cunning man, all the folk magic - is this something he had a background in, or is it something he took up in reaction to Hecate?
