Dear Yuletide Writer
Oct. 9th, 2023 12:59 pmHello! Thank you for writing for me and for sharing one of these fandoms!
I'm DeCarabas on AO3 and carabas on tumblr. All my prompts are fully optional, please feel free to just use something from my likes list as a prompt instead, I hope this letter is enough to give you a starting point if you need one but if you’ve got your own idea for this fandom already, fantastic, do that - what I want most is to see someone else's spin on these small fandoms and rare characters. I like both gen and shipfic and would love either for any of my requests, I like fluff and darkfics and everything in between, any rating, long or short, plot-filled adventures or trope-filled pining or worldbuilding or character studies or horror or smut - whatever style of fic you like to write, go for it. And regarding the recent AO3 settings change, I do have gifts enabled, treats are always very welcome.

Characters: Mark Sollinger, Dan Powell
DNW/Do Not Wants: Mundane AUs. Omegaverse. Watersports or scat. AFAB versions of my requested characters. Pet names in sex scenes (including the words "darling" or "dear").
Gen or slash between my requested characters are both very welcome. I love all the body horror transformations of this show and all the extreme lengths Mark went to for Dan - the time travel and the apparent lack of free will, joining a cult, everything about Dromen! Absolutely incredible dynamic from every angle - Dan dealing with his new flesh and searching for a way to resume his normal life and warning other people away from weirdness at the same time that Mark's actively transformed himself into weirdness for Dan's sake; Mark's podcast kind of costing Dan his normal life to begin with, and Mark/Dromen's guilt when their whole apotheosis is still not quite enough to bring Dan home; season three Dan still describing Mark/Dromen as his best friend after everything!
I'd love to see their reunion in whatever form it takes - what happens to all this devotion on Mark's part after Dan is finally back home and trying to resume a normal life? What does Dromen look like to Dan? Or what does Dan look like to Dromen for that matter - even if Dan no longer has a cyborg body when he makes it back home, is a body manifested through an unnameable ritual in an in-between plane any more human from Dromen's perspective? Or does Dan still have a cyborg body after all, and does he enjoy wireplay? Are there any more problems keeping Dan from resuming a normal life, more magic or horror or mystical eldritch transformations, and how's that entity he incubated doing these days? And how much of Dromen is Mark, and what happens to human affections when they're filtered through an otherworldly perspective? Are there any unexpected consequences of the Wingbeats ritual? (Maybe a cosmic horror crossover - was the Wingbeats ritual invoking the King in Yellow?)
Or I'd love to see some pining (one-sided or otherwise) during all that time they were apart, or attempts at communicating across worlds - was Dromen able to reach Dan at all during season three, or did Dan only know what Mark's been up to because he's been listening to recordings? Or during season two - Dan heard that brief "Don't trust her" from Mark as he was falling asleep once, was there more to that? Or an AU where Mark/Dromen's rituals and time-traveling somehow let him/them visit season two!Dan in person? Would Dan even recognize Dromen!Mark at first? I'd love to see some identity porn where Dromen was able to visit Dan but maybe wasn't able to admit to being Mark, whether that's due to the cult or the lack of free will or ritual restrictions or just Mark's own guilt. Or did we get to see everything Dan's new body was capable of that Rat was so excited about - were there still some more surprises?
Malevolent (Podcast)
Characters: Arthur Lester, Yellow
DNW/Do Not Wants: Mundane AUs. Omegaverse. Watersports or scat. Trans versions of my requested characters. Pet names in sex scenes (including the words "darling" or "dear"). John appearing in a separate body of his own - if John's present at all, please keep him bodysharing with either Arthur or the King.
I usually follow along with the public episodes, so please no patreon spoilers, if that's relevant; feel free to ignore any new canon developments after the writing period starts.
Gen or slash between my requested characters are both very welcome, and feel free to add any other characters to this ship - Arthur/Yellow/John, Arthur/Yellow/The King in Yellow, Arthur/Yellow/the guy who played the piano at the Red Right Hand, whoever, I'll ship them with anyone. I'm so intrigued by this amnesiac fragment who was given a fresh start, this time having the advantage of being told right away exactly who he'd been pre-amnesia, by someone who'd cared about him pre-amnesia - and it all went so horribly, horribly wrong. I love his resentment toward Arthur as his jailer, and I love the powerless frustration of his lack of control over Arthur's body, their complete inability to touch when Yellow's not even aware that's something John had been able to do; I'm fascinated by the little "this too shall pass" hints that Yellow might have some of John's memories on some level; and I'm fascinated by Arthur's sudden idealization of John and his condemnation of Yellow in comparison, Arthur's whole attempt to draw firm lines between John/King, human/monster, good/bad throughout the Addison arc. I love Arthur's grief over John and his whole long post-Dreamlands breakdown that is the Addison arc, I love the constant struggle for control at the heart of his relationships with both John and Yellow, and I absolutely love the fact that this time he voluntarily chose to invite the entity into his mind; and I always love his constant mix of fear and defiance as he faces the horrors. I love Yellow's whole complicated identity as the King and John but also not quite either one of them, and I always love an amnesia plotline - all that potential for misunderstandings and deception, or for forgetting about the things that once mattered deeply to them, or for falling in love all over again.
I'd love to see how Yellow and Arthur's partnership might have developed if they'd been forced to keep living on together after Addison - what would have happened if John hadn't returned so quickly, or at all? What would Yellow have thought of Arkham, or New York, or the Dreamlands? After they got stuck spending so much of their time together trudging through the snow, I'd love to see them spend some winter holiday together, whether that holiday involves something warm and fluffy or a Lovecraftian ritual sacrifice. Or I love Yellow's brief attempts at manipulating Arthur by playing up his role as John, and I'd love to see more of that. And maybe Arthur has a bit of a voice kink for that voice in his head who sounds so much like John? Or what would have happened if Yellow gained some control over part of Arthur's body - or over all of Arthur's body, for that matter; reverse that helpless passenger role Yellow was stuck in! Or with all of Yellow and John's memory issues, it makes me wonder about Arthur's own moment of amnesia back in the first episode - could Arthur's memory still have some missing pieces too?
Or I'd love to see them meet again once John's back and Yellow's with Larson, whether that involves regrets between them or violence or torture or hatesex. Or any other host for Yellow that you like - maybe a human body that he can take full control of and that Arthur and John wouldn't recognize? Or a return to the body of the King himself? What would Yellow make of meeting John, the person Arthur had wanted Yellow to be? John had so much sympathy for Yellow when he was just hearing about him from Arthur - would he be as sympathetic in person?
Or what does it mean to Yellow to be a god, exactly? The King in Yellow was trying to get to earth originally, and some fragment(s) of him technically succeeded in that, and since Yellow embraces that identity as the King where John rejected it - what's it like to be the King in Yellow on earth, but unable to remember actually being the King or why he'd wanted to come to earth in the first place, even if he were able to control the body he's in?
画皮 | Painted Skin (Short Film - Guo Jingming)
Characters: Wang Sheng, Xiao Wei
DNW/Do Not Wants: Mundane AUs, omegaverse, watersports or scat.
This short film is a half hour long and can be watched with English subtitles on dailymotion.
Gen or slash between my requested characters are both very welcome! I absolutely love how much demon/human identity swap angst the canon gave us - Wang Sheng being hunted as a demon in Xiao Wei's place, swapping hearts and trading roles, wanting what the other has, feeling what the other felt, deceptions and sacrifices and connections that last after death, just incredible all around - and I'm equally interested in even more angst or something to soothe the pain. And I've seen the original Gordon Chan movie and its sequel, so feel free to reference those if you like (what would that sequel look like in the alternate universe of the short film?) or ignore them entirely.
I'd love to see what might have happened if Wang Sheng had lived on as a demon a little longer. Or how did Wang Sheng get the lantern with Xiao Wei's tail, and did Xiao Wei know it was there before he came to their home? Or what happens when Wang Sheng reincarnates - will his next incarnation have a human heart or a demon one, will he be drawn to Xiao Wei the way he'd hoped to be drawn to Pei Rong?
长月烬明 | Till the End of the Moon (TV)
Characters: Ye Qingyu
DNW/Do Not Wants: Mundane AUs, omegaverse, watersports or scat.
Ye Qingyu grew on me more and more over the course of the show, and just when I was most interested in his story, just at the moment when he'd lost everything - love, family, country, not even fully human anymore - bam, 500-year timeskip, and we barely see him again! I need to know so much more! Tell me about adjusting to demonic powers that came with your loved one's death, tell me about ruling from behind a mask and how he arranged to pass as his own descendants and who else in the palace keeps his secrets, tell me about loss and duty and what kept him going for five hundred years! Or show me a reunion with the other survivors from his era 500 years later! Or tell me more about what it was like to live as Tantai Jin's traitor general! For ships, I ship him with Pian Ran or Tantai Jin or Nian Baiyu, or any combination of those characters, and gen versions of any of those relationships would also be very welcome.
What's it like to serve the despised hostage prince turned ruler? Does Tantai Jin see a family resemblance between Ye Qingyu and Ye Xiwu, does he take out his frustrations with the sister on the brother? And Ye Qingyu got so offended when he stumbled into Tantai Jin/Ye Xiwu's rope bondage scene - did that moment give him any ideas about ropes and Tantai Jin?
Or I really loved the brief interactions between Ye Qingyu and Nian Baiyu right before the timeskip, when Tantai Jin was too caught up in grief to rule and his subordinates had to step up and be the responsible ones even while dealing with their own grief - they got along so easily together. I'd love to see more of them handling the day-to-day frustrations of working for Tantai Jin together, or I'd absolutely love to see them get a chance to meet up during the 500-year timeskip, especially once Nian Baiyu's stuck working for the devils.
Or I'd love to see Ye Qingyu meet Li Susu after 500 years. Even if she's not quite the original Ye Xiwu, they were family for a while, and I'd love to see a reunion - I'd love to see both of them get the chance to realize they still have some surviving family after all.
Or maybe an AU where things went a little differently - what might have happened if Ye Qingyu wound up in the Bo're dream with the others? Maybe with Pian Ran or Nian Baiyu too?
Vampyr (Video Game)
Characters: Jonathan Reid, Edgar Swansea
DNW/Do Not Wants: Mundane AUs. Omegaverse. Watersports or scat. Permanent deaths of my requested characters.
Gen or slash between my requested characters are both very welcome! I love Edgar's delight in all things vampire and in the accomplished Dr. Reid specifically, and I loved their first meetings - here's Jonathan, lost and confused and abandoned by his maker and wandering about covered in bloodstains and easily warded off by Edgar just holding up a cross, and Edgar's response to all this is to pretty much swoop in to Jonathan's rescue, offer him refuge, and generally be delighted by him! And I love their odd power dynamic - Edgar in charge at Jonathan's hospital and with more knowledge of the world of vampires, and Jonathan as the actual vampire here; Jonathan as Edgar's eventual maker, and Edgar's complete refusal to treat being turned as the punishment Jonathan intended. I love Edgar as that rare human being Jonathan could be fully honest with at a time when even his own family believed he was dead, a person who's part of both Jonathan's former world as a doctor and his new one as a vampire; and I love Edgar's slightly sideways approach to morality at a time when Jonathan's struggling to square his own morality with his new appetites. And on that morality scale, I'm particularly fond of the brooding-alone ending where Jonathan's eaten some people but still has some qualms about it, but all versions of Jonathan on the pacifist-to-evil spectrum are great, please run with whichever you like.
I'd love to see something early in the game playing on the fact that Edgar is one of the very few mortals in on Jonathan's secrets - maybe something where Jonathan's gotten into some trouble, whether with vampires or hunters or suspicious coworkers or inconvenient homicide detectives or simply getting caught out in the wrong spot after dawn? Or anything where Edgar gets to indulge in his vampire-watching fetish, whether that's witnessing one of Jonathan's kills (human or rat, whichever), or Jonathan struggling to adjust to his growing powers, or simply Edgar finding Jonathan's looming intimidating monologue routine inappropriately hot? And if Jonathan did eat any of the civilians, who was it, and what drove him to that point, especially if it's one of the NPCs who aren't serial killers or similarly easy for him to rationalize?
Or I'd love something about vampire!Edgar hearing the voice of Jonathan as his maker in his mind. And Myrddin had some ominous comments about the likelihood of Edgar causing trouble in the Brotherhood now that he's been turned - was he right about that? Or is Edgar just Myrddin's least favorite of Jonathan's potential progeny?
Or anything involving Jonathan/Edgar bloodsucking, whether that's before or after Edgar's turned - especially if Jonathan's not capable of stopping himself mid-feeding and needs someone else to stop him. Or how would any particular scene in the game have played out differently if Edgar had been a romance option?
I'm DeCarabas on AO3 and carabas on tumblr. All my prompts are fully optional, please feel free to just use something from my likes list as a prompt instead, I hope this letter is enough to give you a starting point if you need one but if you’ve got your own idea for this fandom already, fantastic, do that - what I want most is to see someone else's spin on these small fandoms and rare characters.
